These three-day camps provided structured training in running techniques and strength exercises, along with discussions on health, safety, and hygiene. Participants learned key principles of exercise theory, including basic anatomy, physiology, and hygiene, for a well-rounded understanding of fitness. These camps combined running drills, yoga, Zumba, and stretching to enhance physical skills and well-being. Educational sessions addressed hygiene, nutrition, exercise benefits, and emotional health, conducted in Kannada and Tamil for accessibility.
The Positive Running Camps, organized by the RISHI Foundation in August and October 2024, hosted 235 children across three camps: two at Snehagram -Krishnagiri, and one in Pope Johns Garden – Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Supported by over 48 volunteers and 20 staff members, these camps effectively promoted physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth among all who took part.
Training covered threshold runs, speed and distance workouts, and bodyweight exercises to improve cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength. Participants also received orientation in anatomy, physiology, and hygiene to support a holistic understanding of fitness.
The camps resulted in improved awareness of health, nutrition, and hygiene, better understanding of exercise techniques, and increased enthusiasm for regular training. Children showed greater consistency in physical activity, enhanced teamwork, social skills, and goal-setting. There was also a noticeable shift in confidence and motivation, with many expressing a desire to continue running and support others in staying active.
Children responded positively to the camp experience. A senior participant shared, “I want to become a coach and help other children, just like the annas and akkas are supporting us now.” Another child said, “I’m so happy today because of you, Rishi Anna!” One participant added, “This camp showed me that even if something is hard, if we help each other, we can do it together.” Many expressed excitement to continue running and are preparing to participate in the upcoming Footprints Run on December 1st 2024.
The Positive Running Camp 2024 successfully provided children with essential fitness skills, foundational health knowledge, and a strong sense of teamwork.
