Positive Running Camp 2023, held from August 12–14 at Snehagram, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, brought together 27 participants from seven institutions where the Positive Running Program of the RISHI Foundation is actively implemented. The three-day residential camp was designed to promote physical fitness, build leadership skills, and encourage holistic well-being through a blend of expert-led workshops, hands-on fitness sessions, and peer-based learning.
Each day began with invigorating workouts, including running drills, strength and conditioning exercises, flexibility routines, and energetic Zumba sessions. These were guided by specialists like Dr. Gladson Johnson (sports physiotherapist), Gowthami (fitness instructor), and Chandra Gopalan and Santhosh Padmanabhan (running coach), who focused on correct technique, body mechanics, and functional movement. Informative sessions such as “Exercise is Medicine” and “Sports Nutrition” helped participants connect their physical routines with long-term health benefits, including improved immunity, mental well-being, and recovery.
Leadership development formed a core part of the camp, with group-based activities and discussions facilitated by Babu Seenappa and Kaleshwar. These sessions encouraged self-awareness, empathy, and creative problem-solving, helping participants develop confidence to take on leadership roles in their institutions and communities. A crucial session on HIV and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), led by Dr. Michael Raj, emphasized the role of fitness in the lives of youth living with HIV, dispelling myths and reducing stigma through open dialogue.
Participants’ experiences added rich layers to the camp. Sarah, attending for the first time, shared how the camp helped her overcome her fears and commit to a consistent fitness journey. A returning participant reflected on how even familiar sessions brought new insights, particularly in areas like nutrition and stretching. One of the group leaders recalled a powerful moment where supporting struggling teammates taught her the importance of empathy and clear communication in leadership.
The camp concluded with a feedback session, leaving the participants energized, inspired, and ready to carry the spirit of fitness and leadership back to their communities. The Positive Running Camp 2023 successfully cultivated healthier habits, meaningful friendships, and new leaders committed to fitness.
