On 4 December 2024, the RISHI Foundation team had the opportunity to engage with Ms. Uma Mahadevan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government and Development Commissioner.
The meeting provided a valuable platform to present the Foundation’s initiatives and their impact on youth — particularly in the domains of education, health, and social empowerment.
Social entitlements and access
A key focus of the discussion was the role of social entitlements and government welfare schemes in supporting young people, especially those from vulnerable communities. The conversation underscored both the benefits of these programs and the challenges youth face in accessing them.
Three things were emphasised as necessary to ensure broader and more effective reach:
Increased awareness
Improved accessibility
Stronger policy advocacy
The Social Entitlement Survey
Following this engagement, RISHI Foundation conducted a Social Entitlement Survey to assess awareness and utilization of government schemes among young individuals.
561
Participants took part in the survey
Data analysis is currently underway. The findings will offer critical insights into gaps in service delivery and help identify areas requiring further support and targeted advocacy.
The young people this work is for are the same ones we walk alongside through the Positive Running Program and the I’mPossible Fellowship.
